Michael: mozillaZine is running a story about the 100 million downloads of Mozilla Firefox, which is nice for them but it does't mean a thing to me. Anyway, it seems that the Oregon State University plans to launch a weather balloon later today, which I think is a very cool thing. However, and I can't help it, but I kind of wondered who this guy is, because that picture was displayed when I looked at that article O_O
LOL I sure hope it doesn't represents a Mozilla Firefox developer after all the hype is over and he realizes that he didn't do a peep with his life X-D
Ah, I checked the link and it seems that they rotate pictures, so you might get to see this picture or this picture instead, which isn't any better IMHO. Is it me, or are they looking like a bunch of people ready to jump out early? They look so sad, don't you agree?
Can you say: "This is just a joke" ;)
Michael: oh man. This is so weird. I think that I have found an old friend of my father. His name is Mike (I don't use his last name for privacy reasons) and he is 39. Ok, he might older, but I don't know this man so excuse me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I'm told that he now runs (or owns even) a computer shop in New Brunswick NJ. Man, my father might go nuts if this is the same person. I mean, someone told my father like six or zeven years ago that Mike died in a car crash, so that's not a real surprise to me, however, I wonder why they told him that :-S
Listen, this is very important to my dad, and that's why even I know about it because my father feels so darn guilty for not being able to pay like $20 for some hardware that Mike gave him during his last visit. Oh yeah, my father sure likes to meet Mike again. I just hope that he's the same person, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Mike, in case you are actually reading this, you can contact me at: mv_van_rantwijk (and the provider is) yahoo.com Oh yes, I asked some people in New Brunswick for help, now we have to wait and see what happens. Hey you old geezer (my dad) you own me one if this is the one :-DD
Update: Andrea tried to call Mike, but the person that answered the phone told her that there was no person by that name. Thank you for your effort Andrea. However, I might have found someone else that knows Mike, but we have to find out if this Mike it the same person. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, again.
Brian: I was flying to John F. Kennedy International Airport when I first met HJ. He was sitting next to George Haikalis from New York and was in discussion with him. I was sitting behind George and I couldn't help listening in. George had some really interesting ideas about getting traffic out of our city (you might want to do a search to see who George is). It was a really long flight, thank God I was flying first class. I fell in sleep and this good looking flight attendant woke me up the next morning. Hello.
I have this tick for watches. I don't know why, but it's going on ever since my dad gave me one at age 15. My wife Sharol bought me a Rolex for our wedding anniversary with a loving inscription at the back. The bad thing is that I lost my watch during the flight or that day at JFK. My wife went crazy when I came home and told her about the loss.
I was totally unaware that the man in the seat in front of me also had a tick for watches. I do remember that he knew the brand and type after looking at it for a split second. I don't know why, but that kept me busy for weeks. I looked at my seat number on the booking slip and called for the phone number of the seat in front of me. Guess what, they swapped seats so I had the wrong number and they couldn't give me the phone number of the man next to George, so I called him to see if they also swapped business cards. Dead end.
I thought that to be the end of the story, but four months later someone called my wife (and we're not listed so that was quite interesting) to tell her that he found my Rolex. My wife called me two hours later (I was in a meeting) to tell me the news. We were both exited, but the watch didn't arrive per mail. No this person came to hand over the watch in person. The man had looked for me in Switzerland (my wife bought the watch in Basel) and called Rolex for help. What a great person but we sort of lost contact with him.
The WTC tragedy in 2001 has touched us in a number of profound ways that I wouldn't like to express here. It was Wednesday September 11, 2002 and we went to the first memorial service of these horrifying attacks. I noticed that someone was rubbing his watch glass over and over again. Almost like he was polishing it. He was shaking his head and walked away after a while. My wife said: "Wait, isn't that the guy that found your watch?" Nah, that can't be, but she walked up to him and asked who he was. Yeah, she was right. He was the one.
The strange thing was that I already used Mozilla for browsing. I even had MultiZilla installed, but it never occurred to me who the developer was. Not until I fired up my browser up waiting for dinner (we asked HJ for dinner as a thank you). He started to smile and we had not seen a smile before. He asked: "Do you know who wrote that?" I didn't so I said no. HJ said: "He's sitting right next to you."
You see, our planet is large, but is getting smaller with todays communication and transportation equipment. We can bump into new friends any time any place, just like we did. Even here. Even today. Thank you for being our friend HJ. Get well soon!
Frane: (taken from the newsgroup)
"First of all I really like Your work.
I hate to be boring but I tried to update GoogleBox to 1.7a
many times and still no luck, it still reports 1.6a and I has error
is there chance that GoogleBox 1.7 on server is in fact still 1.6?"
Michael: thank you Frane, and you was far from boring. In fact you were right. I checked the XPI and the GoogleBox was indeed still version 1.6c instead of version 1.7a I somehow CVS commited version 1.6 of the GoogleBox instead of version 1.7 Yikes man, I don't know how I did it, but it should be fixed by now. Sorry people :")
I fixed two bugs in the Feed Viewer, that I fixed before but I lost the patches because of that stupid HD crash. The first bug was that the last article shouldn't have an enabled next article button, so I fixed that. I also fixed a function responsible for retrieving feed info, because that also failed. Yes, I had this fixed, but again... Another problem I noticed is that the AM/PM patch breaks the Today/Yesterday code of the Feed Viewer, which I also fixed for a previous version. I guess that I have to fix this also again. I sure hope this is one of the last things I have to redo.
You should have noticed that John and Jeff kicked off with some stories about how they met my father and how they got hooked to MultiZilla. We plan to have one more later this week and I was wondering if someone else is willing to add his/her story. No, it doesn't have to be that crazy, just write some lines what you think of him. We just like to fire up the community spirit a little, so we like to hear more from you. Join us and let us know who you are. Don't be quiet until you run into some bug. Let us know who you are. You can e-mail me at: mv_van_rantwijk (and the provider is) yahoo.com
John: the story Jeff wrote about was fun reading for me, and I would like to add another one. I'm more of less in the same position as Jeff and HJ is also my best friend. I've met HJ for the first time back in 1996. I just had lunch with my partner and we were waiting to get back on the road when my partner noticed three people at the back of this Acura RL, with the trunk open.
One of these guys, a Chinese man, was counting a large sum of cash, in the middle of the parking lot on a Sunday. We checked the New York license plate and asked for backup (one of the guys was like 250 pounds and looked ready to tear us apart, and I'm not speaking about the Chinese guy). The backup arrived and we did our thing, but everything was legit, just a STO. I remember HJ saying something like: "Thanks, and see you next time"
Two days later we received a call, in the middle of the night, about a fire in the Holiday Inn in Piscatoway NJ. It might have taken us two three minutes, but people were already standing outside in their under ware, except for one guy. This guy was fully dressed (in a suit) and I guess you all know who this guy was. Right. That was HJ. The funny thing was that he even had his suitcase with him so he was the only one to be fully dressed with his suitcase and he was taking pictures. Yeah. That is about everything you need to turn yourself into a real suspect.
HJ told us that he arrived about 40 minutes earlier and that he had taken a shower and made some phone calls... which was why he was still awake when the alarm went off. We asked him why he was taking pictures of the fire and he said that his car was parked in front of the Hotel, so for the insurance in case it was damaged. About the same time a Viet guy started to run, like he was running for his life. My partner and I started to chase him, calling for help because he had a big knife. Man, this guy was fast. We lost him. We also lost sight of HJ, but not for long.
It must have been a minute later when more backup arrived; with HJ and that Viet guy in the back of the patrol car. Now that was a real shock for us. So what happened? Well, HJ also chased the guy. From the other side and catched him. He asked him to turn himself in, but the guy didn't seem to listen. So HJ had no other option than to kick his ass or to let him go. The latter wasn't an option for him so o_O The only problem was that the Viet didn't do English :-DD
This was a great story, and we had a party later that week, so we asked him to drop by. LOL This is sort of how we first met. Years have past by since, and we've had plenty of other fun with him, but he was also the one who helped me when I lost my wife and two kids. Yeah, that's when you get to learn your friends.
People told me that I needed a hobby, after years of grief, and HJ mentioned Internet and MultiZilla so I had a go with it and I was quite fast hooked to it. I dumped Internet Explorer completely a little over a year ago, but I'm still far from a computer geek like HJ and most of you. Still, I enjoy using it, and I refuse to use Mozilla Firefox as long as there's no MultiZilla for it ;)
Michael: some people have a bad karma. I mean, I had a short night with not too much sleep. Someone attacked me and my father and I couldn't get it out of my system. We are morons, at least if we have to believe Chris Neale, which you don't of course, but he wrote: "I have an exceedingly low moron threshold." Right, we both are morons...and you people are users of software that is written, designed and maintained by morons O_O
What? You're still here? Great! I wonder if he can say sarcasm when someone calls his name and hit him in the face one day. Say Cheese Chris, because that's what you get for having a bad karma :-P
Yikes, remember me writing about that jumping cursor? Well, I have the same kind of problems when I use MailNews, so this isn't limited to HomeSite. That almost makes it look like some kind of virus or malware, but I already did a system wide scan for viruses and ad ware, but neither AWG nor Ad-Aware nor the on-line Panda check did find anything. HiJackThis was also unable to find anything suspicious, so I'm afraid that something is still not right with my notebook. Bummer, I don't know what to next. Do you?
Phil: The latest three items in the feed are pointing to non existing articles:
13-10-2005
15-10-2005
16-10-2005
Michael: Dr. Phil, that was just me suffering a bit of conflicting emotions, caused by that stupid comment of Chris Neale, but I will take care of it later today. I only whished that Raj was ready with that PHP script, so that I don't have to copy/paste the text into current.html all the time. Man, the way it now works, or the lack of it, is nibbling a lot of time off my bug radar :-(
You should be able to read the missing articles in the Feed Viewer (middle-click on the item in the upper tree) but you might need to set "layout.xml.prettyprint" to true, like Phil did. Also, note that you must add this preference when it is missing!
Michael: Sorry Jeff, but I lost your text somehow while I was working in my new HomeSite 5 edition. I used to use HomeSite version 4.51 (I think) and that worked just fine for me. However, this new version is acting very strange. I mean I was just entering some new text when my cursor jumped to a completely different location in my document.
Yikes, it just happened again. I mean, that stupid entry point changed. I need to file a bug/complaint, because HomeSite isn't exactly free, nor bug free it seems. Any way, I don't know what happened, but your text was gone, and I could only get it back by pressing Ctrl+Z a number of times, but not all of it I'm afraid.
Also, the spell checker changed some words it seems, so I'm really sorry if I changed your news blurb a little but I can't...(chips, it just did it again. Man what a pesky little annoying bug is this. I might need a completely different package if this goes on forever)...get it back as I cleaned my inbox already.
Ugh, I wonder what is wrong with the last couple of SeaMonkey nightlies. I mean I keep having troubles with it. First of all, there are some sort of ghost images left on my display, like it doesn't cleanup old windows or something, and it keeps crashing when I save tabs. Note that the same version of MultiZilla works fine with Mozilla 1.7.12. Well, at least it saves the tabs without crashing, but I have other problems with Mozilla.
Oh yes, I fixed that bug, see also bug 11827 but I got bug 11828 in return. I have to keep smiling and try to fix it, but this one seems really hard to fix, so I hope you people understand that it might take a while before I succeed ;)
Jeff: I might have some interesting, unbiased, news for you, in case you like to know how I got hooked to MultiZilla. First of all, I'm one of the Elite and HJ happens to be my best friend and XO. We've gone through thick and thin over the last couple of years, and our group started as 22 close friends. Most of us lived in up town New York but some lived in New Jersey while others choose a more relaxed area in California, like Laguna Beach.
I first met HJ after he got lost in his white Chrysler rental. He traveled by car from Somerset New Jersey back to JFK, after visiting some party. Dan and Mike told him what turn pike he should take, but he got lost anyway. Man, that must have been late 1995 or early 1996. I think it was 5AM when my girlfriend jumped right back into her car, after HJ parked his rental next to us. He opened the door and got out of that silly looking white Chrysler Neon. He knocked on the window and my girlfriend screamed out loud: "Who the f*ck are you? Can't you see we were busy?" Yeah, she was really shocked :")
He explained to us what happened, with a straight face, so we got him new directions to JFK, and we've never seen the guy again, until one year later. I was sitting in our patrol car with my partner (that's what I did before my current job) when some car drove by real fast. We picked up speed and got behind it, passed it and turned him over and...well you know the drill right?
There was something funny about this guy, like I knew him. I scratched my head and wondered who this person was, then he asked: "Hey, arn't you that guy I asked for directions last year? Your girlfriend, what's her name Shandy, she was shocked when I got out of the car. I mean you was doing the sausage and donuts thing, right?" My partner looked at me and asked: "What sausage and donuts thing?" Yep, we got a beautiful baby girl some nine months later ;)
Anyway, we booked him, end of story. At least that's what I thought, but no Sir. I was send over to the LAPD months later, and it must have been a Friday or Saturday evening around 7:30 when someone crashed into my car. A guy called Neil stepped out and said: "I'm really sorry, but I had no brakes." Yeah right.
I mean, a brand new Viper without brakes? Come on dude! I walked up to his car and got in, checked the brake pedal and it didn't do sh*t so this Neil person was right about the brakes. The person in the passenger seat was on the phone, and he was alright, so I didn't really looked at him, until this person called my name and said: "Heya Jeff. How are you doing?" Yeah, that's how this incredible beautiful friendship is born, but you know what, I'm still puzzled as to why two complete strangers run into each other like this. Isn't life something...
Michael: Ok, the box with my new hard drive and main board arrived yesterday. I installed the news pieces, which was a first time ever for me, but everything went smooth, upon the actual Windows XP installation.
I decited to make two partitions, each 40GB, and tried to install Window XP after this long slow format. What I didn't knew was that I needed a new activation code, because the on-line update site only works when you've activated your copy of Windows XP) so I called Microsoft and explained what happened, but my copy of Windows XP was in fact previously registered by the agency, so I ended up buying a new (my own) copy of Windows XP.
Anyway, I entered the new activation code, without re-instaling the darn OS again of course, and everything works just like before, just a little faster. Man, do you know that SP2 alone is a 75MB download, I didn't, and that you have to install 34 other patches (but only because I choose not to re-install Windows XP I'm told).
The next thing I had to do was to install all software I need, like: ZoneAlarm, Ad-Aware, AWG, WinAmp, Microsoft Media Player, QuickTime, WinZIP, InfoZIP, Microsoft Word, Picture It Photo, Capture It, HomeSite, TopStyle, Ethereal, CygWin and of course Mozilla and SeaMonkey.
I would like to say: "Thank you" to the few that donated their hard earned cash, and hopefully more will flow in, because that HP main board (including Windows XP) was ridiculously expensive >:-(
Michael: I have a rather embarrassing problem, but my hard drive broke down yesterday and I don't have 275 Euro for a replacement. I have no options, so I have to ask you people to support me, so that I can keep working on the project, ugh :")
You can click on the credit card logos to donate, just in case you like what I'm doing and want to support me. Note that this PayPal account was setup by my father two years ago and that my grandmother is the account holder so no worries I will get the money. Thank you for your support!
Michael: I've started to work on support for smileys in the Feed Viewer yesterday, but I had quite a few problems to solve so it was only today that I've finished my work. Please note that I might have missed something, but the smileys look great in feeds.
Michael: I've received a rather interesting question from Raj, who you should know by now is our webmaster. Raj's question was: "Can the Feed Reader and Feed Viewer read and display feeds that are send as plain text from a server."
I first had to read the specs before I knew the answer, and this is what I found in my father's specs, written almost two years ago now: "Feeds are basically just XML documents so the feed reader/viewer shouldn't accept feeds that are send with the wrong mime type, so we have to setup the servers to send the right mime type."
True, I've already added support for XUL Documents, because people found some servers that send feeds as XUL Documents, but XUL Document are in fact just XML Documents, so that should be alright I guess. However, I don't think that we should accepts other mime types are well. That would break his specs, and that's in fact all I've got for now, or someone should have real good arguments that we should add support for it. Do you?
Michael: You think that you've done something good, but then people start asking questions like: "I was wondering where I could watch the subscribed feeds, anyway..." :-O
Ok Jens, you're right about this. We let you subscribe to feeds without knowing where they are kept. Hmm, this requires a quick and simple fix, so I simply renamed the window title of the Add Feed dialog window. Hopefully people read English, because that might become another problem...but that's not really my problem now is it?
Now I'm wondering if we shouldn't open the sidebar. We could add a pref for it. Yeah right, we don't even have a pref panel for feeds yet, and I also wasn't really planning to add one soon, or should we?
Michael: Four weeks have past and it has been a Rollercoaster TM ride all the way so far, and I still enjoy working on it. The response so far is really nice and people are impressed by what I accompliced in this short period of time. I mean next to all my homework. Sure, I did get quite a bit of help from people like Raj and even from err--I can't write that, sorry. Anyway, the new Feed Reader--which if you haven't noticed by now is a Sidebar tab, is still basic compared to what my father developed, but we still got a bit of time to add new features and fix bugs before we release a new MultiZilla. The Feed Viewer is also getting along and the recent performance improvements didn't go by unnoticed by the agency, so some of my work is now being back-ported. Woohoo :-)
To be fair; I have been extremely lucky that my father wrote most of the source code last year already, so I didn't had the re-invent the wheel. However, the agency and my father had an agreement; to not publish his work in total, to not publish it as an extension or part of the public versions of MultiZilla (yes there are non-public versions as well) and so it had to be re-written from scratch, and that is exactly what I did ;)
Sure, that was easy, because I had all his source at hand, but I still managed to introduce quite a number of bugs, which most of them should be fixed by now BTW. I also borrowed images from Mozilla Thunderbird because my graphic skills are close to zero, and I couldn't use the original images because of copyright issues, so I took the images that were available to me so I hope you all like the result.
Michael: Web feeds are becoming more and more common good these days. In fact, it is getting harder to find a good site without a web feed, and some sites provide a whole bunch of feeds, unlike the MultiZilla project site, until today!
Yes, it was time for us to jump on the bandwagon but my father, who most of you probably know as one of the most dedicated project owners on mozdev.org, already planned this feed a little over a year ago, but other more important obligations caused it to slip.
He also wrote a feed reader anex feed viewer for MultiZilla, which BTW has never been available for the 'general public' before, but I'm planning to change this a.s.a.p and I hope to inform you about the progress in a future news blurb.
We might be a little late, and we kind of have to agree with you, but again, that was caused by various reasons. One of these reasons is that my father is 'unavailable' for at least five or six months each year. Doesn't that makes it even more impressive? I mean that he managed, single handed, to maintain the project next to all other things he's doing? IMHO it is and I can't really blame him for being one of the Elite. Especially these days, when security matters even more.
The second reason is that Raj, our webmaster, has been extremely busy the last year, so most of the web site updates were done by either my father or me, and I'm far from a good web designer. Lets hope that Raj will eventually have more free time available, but we want that in the first place for him, because we want him to get old, and being pushed around all day isn't going to help him nor anyone else for that matter. Time for the project? Yeah, that would be nice but until then, we just have to deal with it.
We started to update some of the pages (this work is, mostly, layout related) so you might have noticed the changes, or not, but you should have notived the changes on our bugs page. Yes, we are getting there, however, our webmaster Raj has more on his radar so it will be done step by step. Hey, we would really appreciate a little help from you!
Project webmaster Raj returned from his holiday and Michael also picked up his unfinished work again. Michael can only work on the project until his College start again in September. This will hopefully enable him to fix the most important bug again.
Project webmaster Raj will be on holiday until Monday 15th August. Any new bugs filed should continue to have him CCed on to them. HJ is also away until further notice.

screenshot is MultiZilla warning/prompt that will be displayed when you visit
SSL protected sites for first
time. My second screenshot is MultiZilla's warning/prompt that will be displayed when you
visit SSL protected sites with
Internation Domain Name.
The third and last screenshot for today is MultiZilla's
Advanced Pref Panel. This pref panel has
been modified to support
punycode display for International Domain Names
(the pref will only work in Mozilla build 20050218xx and up) and here's a link with a link to
a on-line punycode converter.

MultiZilla Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.7.0.2 revision update A for Mozilla 1.7.5 and above has been released at
5:45AM (Pacific Standard Time) today (please remember that the download mirrors need a little
time to re-sync). We also released a new MultiZilla nightly (v1.8.0.1a).
This MultiZilla update has a patch for bug 9155 and it also solves another unfiled bug (Ctrl+Click on tab no longer copies URL to clipboard). A regression broke Mozilla's Web Search feature in Mozilla 1.7.5 (in combination with MultiZilla) but this problem is now also fixed.
Unicode Host Spoofing
A more important patch in this update is a security fix against possible host spoofing attacks in
Mozilla. The first screenshot is taken after visiting the real PayPal site at
http://www.paypal.com but our second screenshot
is a dummy/fake site at
http://www.pаypal.com/ which could be
used to trick you, but note the orange background color of the location bar! This should give you a
clue that something is wrong with the site!
The PayPal site is only an example. Someone can easily spoof the website of your bank, used by you for your Internet banking. Be well prepared and report all possible attacks a.s.a.p. to the original domain holder, for example your bank!
Make sure to read this update information!
Update: we released two new revision updates, one for MultiZilla v1.7.0.2 and the other for MultiZilla v1.8.0.1. These revision updates have patches for bug bug 9178 and I also decided to display the Organization (taken from the certificate) on the status bar, this instead of the host name. This makes it easier for us to determine if the visited site belongs to the expected organization or that we are visiting some fake site.
Oops, bugzilla.mozdev.org is broken once again, but Pete Collins is working on a real fix already so bear with us.
LOL I didn't open my mail, until now, and a verdict has been spoken and I won. Yeah this is very good news!
First of all, I am normally just another nice guy, one that helps other people when needed, but I had to go to court to get credit for my work, and won this case from this unnamed company. The company remains unnamed, because that was part of the deal. They copied my work, without mentioning and crediting me in public, so guess what...
At first, I kindly asked them to give me at least some credit, and to change their policy, but they thought to get away with it. My second notification was a warning, to go to court, but they still thought to get away with it. Now they've learned who I am, the hard way, and who my employer is, which is also why there will be no public records of this case.
This is a public warning, effectively immediately, to anyone that copied my work in the past, and/or plans to copy anything I wrote and/or worked on, (parts of) my source code and/or (parts of) features introduced in any of my code/projects, without asking and/or mentioning and/or crediting the original developer, being HJ van Rantwijk.
Now, I am lucky to have my employer as backup, because it is one that makes Google or Microsoft look small. I am 43 years of age and a high ranked senior officer, and lots of people pay respect to me, so that might be why my employer simply pulled this companies website from the Internet, for not obeying the court order in time.
Credit to whom credit belongs, don't you agree?
Open Source is NOT 'Rip Off Ware'. Face it or deal with us in court. We don't care about who you are or who you employer is, so here is our promise to you, you won't get away with it! You love your car, fine, but get used to walking my friend!
Anyone that helps me to fight 'Rip Off Ware' crime gets a minimum reward of $10.000 up to $25.000, depending on the case, for any case that we win in court!
Note that the money will be part of the court deal. Hey, all I am asking for, really, is a little credit for all my hard work and long hours in the past. Don't you agree that this is fair to me?
ROFL Now we're ready to fight a few other suckers, because we enjoy winning so much...
MultiZilla Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.8.0.0 revision update C for Mozilla 1.7.5 and above has been released at
11:45AM (Pacific Standard Time) today (please remember that the download mirrors need a little
time to re-sync).
This update includes a huge patch for our XPInstall Confirmation Window, like a new context menu with several handy menu items and a neat new feature to make you aware of cross domain installations, for which a yellow background will be displayed, and blocked domain installations, for which a orange background will be displayed. The orange background will only be displayed in very specific cases when both Mozilla and MultiZilla failed to intercept this XPInstallation.
Let me try to explain this orange color feature a little, with the following example:
All downloads from the MultiZilla site will be initiated from downloads.mozdev.org and
re-routed to one of the download mirror that handles the actual download. Now, the orange
background will be displayed when you've allowed XPInstallations from the main mirror, being
downloads.mozdev.org, but blocked one or more of the download mirrors, for example
downloads.us-east3.mozdev.org, or any of the other download mirrors for mozdev.org.
Update:
A wrong background color (yellow) was displayed for XPInstallations initiated from your hard
drive, because I used a wrong var (I must have been working a little too long on this new
features).
Jens Hatlak is doing some testing for me on Windows, Linux, and Solaris and he reported another bug, triggered for XPInstallations initiated with a drag and drop from Windows Explorer. I also noticed this bug and quickly fixed.
Note that both of these bugs will be fixed in our upcoming revision update of MultiZilla!
This MultiZilla version will now also block XPInstallations from; bookmarks, the location bar, history and page reloads. Note that Mozilla Firefox fails in all of these cases!
Did you changed the preference to get this MultiZilla version going?
Googlebox Update Information..
Googlebox v1.5 revision update D for MultiZilla version 1.8.0.0 and above has been release at
11:45AM (Pacific Standard Time) today (please remember that the download mirrors need a little
time to re-sync).
This update includes a fix for the missing GoogleBox entry in MultiZilla's Preference Window and a modified style sheet for when this pref panel is opened in MultiZilla's Preference Window. It also includes a fix for spin buttons, this patch enables you to use the keyboard up and down arrow keys, to modify the value of the corresponding text box.
This GoogleBox version should only be used with MultiZilla v1.8.0.0C and above!
MultiZilla Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.8.0.0 revision update B for Mozilla 1.7.5 and above has been released at
12:10AM (Pacific Standard Time) today (please remember that the download mirrors need a little
time to re-sync).
I have been working on the new XPInstall Info Messages and they should appear in Mozilla v1.8 but not in Mozilla 1.7.5. Also, check this news on how to set the pref setting to enables our new and improved XPInstall confirmation window.
XPInstall Confirmation Window V2...
Do you remember this screen shot? Well, I made some
adjustments to it and not we have this. Looks better this
way, don't you agree?
XPInstall Info Messages...
Ben Goodger must have winked to MSIE's implementation of Info Messages, and I looked at his work
and completely rewrote it from scratch for MultiZilla. Here are two screen shots, the
first one
will be displayed when XPInstall is disabled and the
second one
will be displayed when a site is blocked from XPInstalling a theme and / or extension. Enjoy :-)
Oops, I really need to get some sleep now, so I don't have more time to add other changes but you can always visit the projects weblog for more info. I hope to be able to update the page later today, after work hours so to speak ;)
BugZilla Attacked...
Bugzilla on mozdev.org has been under attack, see also
mozillaZine so you might have received
lots of bugzilla mail, and we are sorry about that, but this is something totally out of control
for us.
HJ going away...
Project lead, HJ, will be absent for several weeks (at least) due to personal issues. During
this time, not an awful lot of work will be done on MultiZilla, but please keep filing bugs
(and CC Raj on to them – his email address is on the homepage) and if you have any
patches, they will still be welcomed. Please read HJ's post on his blog for more
details on why he's going away.
Update: HJ has changed his mind about going away. See this post his blog for further details.
Googlebox 1.5b
Googlebox v1.5b has been release with a single fix. This contains a fix for
the following bug:
- bug 8885 [GB] GoogleBox no longer submits search to Google
Bugzilla problems...
You may notice MySQL-related errors on our bugs page
at the moment. This is because the Bugzilla installation on Mozdev.org (where MultiZilla is hosted)
is being upgraded at the moment. Please bear with us until this is finished.
Update: This is now fixed (again).
MultiZilla Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.7.0.1 revision update G for Mozilla 1.7.5 has been released at 10:00AM
(Pacific Standard Time) today (mirrors need time to sync!). This update has patches to fix
the following bugs;
Update:
We released revision update H at 6:00PM (Pacific Standard Time), because
bug 8797 wasn't really fixed
in revision update G. Thank you for your patient and help!
GoogleBox Update Information...
GoogleBox version 1.5 revision update A for MultiZilla 1.7.0.1f and up has been released at
9:15AM (Pacific Standard Time) today (mirrors need time to sync!). This update has a patch to
fix bug 8832, sorry that's all for now folks.
Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.7.0.1 revision update F for Mozilla 1.7.5 has been released at 10:00AM
(Pacific Standard Time) today (mirrors need time to sync!). This update has has a number
of bug fixes like;
You might have noticed that Mozilla dumped some JavaScript warnings/errors because we basically replaced most of the tabbrowser.xml, but now we replaced all of it, just to prevent the warnings / errors. Please report all warnings / errors that start with chrome://multiviews Thanks you!
Self Compiled Builds
I accidentally removed some lines from install.js and that made it impossible to install MultiZilla
with a self compiled Mozilla version, because the buildID will be 0 (by default) for self compiled
versions of Mozilla. Anyway, the removed / missing lines are back, so this problem should be fixed
again.
Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.7.0.1 revision update E for Mozilla 1.7.5 has been released at 10:00PM
(Pacific Standard Time) today. This update has a number of important bug fixes like;
- bug 6489 Blocking a popup has bad side effect
- bug 7638 QPrefs button too big in full screen mode (modern theme)
- bug 8581 QPrefs/Clear Local Data crashes Mozilla
- bug 8713 QPrefs/MultiZilla Preferences hangs Mozilla
- bug 8783 Certain types of popups are blocked no matter what.
- bug 8784 XML Parsing Error in Popups pref panel (Permission Managers)
Modern Theme
HJ fixed bug 7638 and took extra time
to make all Managers look right with Modern theme. We hope you appreciate his work, because he
doesn't even use Modern theme!
New Features
We have ported the Information Messages from Mozilla Firefox (copied from Microsoft Internet
Explorer) and heavily modified it for MultiZilla. The Info Messages in MultiZilla provide a little
more feedback, because we display the site and our Info Messages will also work with local (read
network) drives!
We've also added a close button. This close button can be hidden by setting pref setting multizilla.info-messages.show-close-botton to false.
There's also a new pref setting multizilla.info-messages.middle-click-close that enables you to use a mouse-middle-click to hide Info Messages.
We also limit the number of blocked popup windows to 20, because we only list unique hosts. We did this to prevent popup race conditions to fill the menu endlessly with the same host.
And finally, we also strip the 'www' (TLD) part from the host when we add or change permissions.
eXternal Program Installation
HJ located a few bugs in Mozilla trunk builds, bugs that prevented you from installing your favorite
extensions with recent Mozilla trunk builds, and that triggered his attention, so now he also
replaced the Redirect category button in the Permission Manager with XPInstall. A
new pref panel compliments this feature.
Note that the new Info Messages for XPInstall will only work with a recent Mozilla (read v1.8)
build, not with Mozilla v1.7.5!
Preference Manager
We have a new pref setting multizilla.prefs.use-preference-manager to enable a light
weight preference window (note that this Preference Manager was made for Mozilla Firefox
compatibility). You can use either true or false, just give it a try ;)
Oh, one last note. MultiZilla's Preference Manager should now be a modal window on Windows platforms and non-modal on all other platforms.
Update Information...
MultiZilla version 1.7.0.1 revision update D for Mozilla 1.7.5 has been released at 7:35PM
(Pacific Standard Time) today. This update has only two patches, to fix
bug 8696 and
bug 8713
Thanks to Kevin Hill and Bjarne D Mathiesen for bringing these bugs to our attention.
XPInstall Confirmation Window...
There is a new, but optional, XPInstall confirmation window that can be enabled by updating a
single pref setting. Here's how to enable this new window:
- open Menu Help and select menu item About Config
- enter: xpi in the filter entry field
- double click on xpinstall.dialog.confirm
- change: chrome://communicator/content/xpinstall/institems.xul
into: chrome://multiviews/content/xpinstall/xpinstallConfirm.xul
Click here for a screen shot of this new XPInstallation confirmation window, or do you rather like the old style?
Happy New Year to everyone from the MultiZilla project team members; John, Raj and HJ.
